In an attempt to stop my incessant procrastinating I've removed my wireless card from my computer. I no longer have immediate access to the world wide web. I now I have to go downstairs and use one of my parents computers which is a whole hell of a lot harder than clicking on the firefox logo. I really have no need to check livejournal, facebook, and moped army a billion a times a day.
In other news yesterday on the bus I saw this posted slightly out of view of: "The fucked up kids beat the shit out of Helen Keller". So be ont he look out for the Fucked Up Kids, they travel back in time and beat up historical figures. |

The past several months of I've been attending 80's night at the Drink. Lately though I've been getting tired of it. The DJ does a good job of switching the music up so you don't overwhelmed with the same songs, though there are a couple mainstays, like Danger High! Voltage by Electric Six and Don't Stop Believein' by Journey. Partly because of this and partly because I've just haven't been feeling it like i use to I've been thinking of taking a break but friends keep asking me if I'm going and I keep going. This week was no different. I showed up and wasn't really feeling. I went around said hello to the same people I see every week, and to some I don't see that often. I stood on the periphery of the dancefloor. just watching. I noticed my leg tapping to the beat. Soon I jumped into the middle of the dancefloor and stayed there all night. There's a certain joy to being on the dancefloor. People's limbs and torsos moving together connected by the same beat, throwing throwing their hands in the air and singing the same words, bodies convulsing and sweating. Everyone was just doing their own thing. By the times the lights came on I was exhausted and exhilarated.
On my home that night I was driving down Fuller and the snow was falling wet and softly. No one was around, not even the snow plows. It was dark except for my headlights and soft circles of light from the streetlights. I came to rest at an upside down stop sign. |

I just watched my friends get engaged on YouTube. I am struck by the cheesiness of it, the lack of quality of the video, and genuine happiness for my friends. The whole thing is quite bizarre for me. |

So today is my friend's Jen's birthday and she's having a party. I show up, only a few minutes ago, and walk in expecting people to be chatting and drinking wine. Only no one is. The apartment is dead, lights are on, but sound system is dead and wine is unopened. Turns out the went out to eat. So what now I really am partying by myself. |

Yesterday I ran into an old high school friend. I was walking into Kirkhof and this guy holds the door for me. I thank him, he says your welcome phil. Hey it's my old friend mike who I haven't to since high school. How are you doing? Oh I'm on my way to student senate to experience the ineffectiveness of our government first hand. I guffaw, and agree and we both go on our way. It was the best "I haven't seen you in forever, what's going on with you now?" conversation I have ever had. |

[Oct. 25th, 2006|10:02 am] |
So I've made the decision to stop going to school for awhile. Right now the plan is to go back no later than winter 08 no earlier than Fall 07 so about a year. I just couldn't handle it anymore and needed a break. I've been saying I need a break for about two years so I'm finally taking one, better late than never I guess.
In other news since I'm not going to be bogged down by school work I am going to attempt NaNoWriMo. For those who don't know what that is it's National Novel Writing Month which takes place in November, 50000 words in 30 days, I think I can do it, especially since it doesn't have to be good.
Also if you don't already know I'm having a party on Friday. |

So every monday night The Ghostriders, the Moped Army branch of Grand Rapids, goes on a ride. It's great fun, 15 mopeds cruising the streets of Grand Rapids slowing down traffic. Tonight we go out riding around on Michigan east of of the beltline. Not that big of a deal I've ridden to the beltline on my 'ped before, I just never took michigan. So to do this we had to actually ride on the beltline. So we all turned right on got in the furthest lane and then did a Michigan left. I've never thought they were that big of a deal but I've did it when I could only go twentyfive and everyone else was going sixty. I just say opening and cheesed it across on got onto the sidewalk. From there we rode down the beltline across the entance to the express, eventually we took a right and started on a nice scenic route. I was going along enjoying myself when I start feeling my 'ped riding a bit rough and wobbly. I keep going and catch up with them at a stop sign. It's at that point I realize I have flat tire. Everybody starts throwing out suggestions "Does anybody have a bike pump?" "Yeah I do, but it's at my house." "Anybody got an extra tube?" "Yeah, I got one, but it's at my house." "Anybody got a patch kit" "Yeah, but...it's at my house." Eventually it's decided that a couple people will ride back to their houses pick up stuff and Chris will pick up his Honda CR-V. So him, Jam and several other people leave so Hillary, Jim, Pauly, Nick, Ben and I end up chillin at this intersection in the middle of nowhere. Pauly is standing in the middle of the street and thinks he sees a Shell sign. Think it would be way sweeter to be stranded on the side of the road with beer him, Jim and Hillary go off. The rest off us start covering what we can of our skin since the mosquitoes are beginning to swarm and destroy us. Realizing that they rest of them have been gone for awhile we go out in the street trying to see the sign, turns out that the yellow road sign saying that you have to go left or right since the road ceases to continue. They end up having to go to Leonard and the Beltline. They come back with donuts and water, its not beer, but that's okay by me since I love donuts. I mean I really love donuts. We stay hanging around for another forty five minutes and Chris shows up with CR-V and we just shove my moped in the back of it since it was dark, everybody was sweaty and getting eaten alive. I get backSo the moped is in my shed, I have new tube courtesy of Chris, and I'll put it on in a few days and get back to the open road. I get back and strip to my boxers 'cause dammit I've just spent the last hour and half in middle of nowhere sweating my balls off and getting eaten alive, I'm going to wear clothes if I dont want too. I look in the mirror my back is covered in bites, I mean giant size of little children's heads bites. Everything is going to be okay, but my back itches, a lot. |

So at some point I signed up to have a VIP party at McFadden's. Yes, that's all you have to do, put on your name on a list and they'll call you and give you a list of dates, which happen to be all thursdays. So I signed up for this Thursday for no real good reason. So you and your friends should come out and eat free food and drink cheap booze. Though this special of free food and Two Dollar you call its only goes from eight to eleven, because I'm not important enough to have it go any later.
Also, if you're lucky you might see me do the bird flu |

I've always thought it would be cool to become a regular somewhere, I just never expected it to be 7-11. My current residence is blessed/cursed with a 7-11 four blocks away, which means whenever I have a hankerin' for taquitos, which is almost always, it is easily fulfilled. When you go several times a week at varying hours of the day, you get to know just about everyone who works there, especially when the order is almost always the same: three taquitos. All cheesy beef tacos when I can, then I delve into Sausage, egg, and cheese when they have them(which is rare it's a morning taquito for some reason), jalapeno and cream cheese, and then and only then do I go into monterrey cheese and chicken, and the steak and cheese flavors. This taquito addiction, an addiction it is, has lead me congratulate clerks on the births of their children, though for some reason all the clerks start off pregnant, none become pregnant, and have talked to them about their family life. I would like to say that somehow I have a special connection with 7-11 clerks the world over, but no, I know that this kind of relationship can only be formed from countless three dollar and seventeen cent totals. |

Last night I somehow ended up in one of the most swankest apartments in Grand Rapids. It had the ever popular minimalist/industrial look to it. The place was owned by a guy named Vitroe, he's Polish and makes movies. Yes there was European Dance music. Vitroe dressed as Forrest Gump, which was kind of odd, but there were people in full out ball gowns and tuxes. I also ran into my friend Francesca and she was dressed as Charlie Chapman just for the hell of it. There were also a fair number of forty-year olds there. One of which complimented me on my saying how I looked like her friends in high school while running her fingers through my hair and touching my face. I was scared. Luckily though the bartender came out and starting yelling at us to go in and watch his punk band inside. I went hoping the scary lady wouldn't be there. While I was watching them I fully noticed exactly how nice of a place this was. There was art hanging on the walls, high ceilings, and huge windows(which I didn't quite get since this place was on Division and Division isn't quite that nice of a place yet), and here was this punk band screaming about something and wasn't sure this was some giant ironic statement or not. I'm still not sure. |

| Swarming and destroying Kalamazoo |
[May. 30th, 2006|02:39 pm] |
|
Nick, his girlfriend Amy, and I went down to Kalamazoo for the moped army's annual BBQ. I believe it's biggest moped rally in country, and needless to say there were a lot of mopeds, about two-hundred is what I heard. The most interesting ones were entered in the customized show, which was rather informal. You just needed put your moped in the line and someone put a number on it. I wish I had a camera with me, but unfortunaley I dont own one, which is one of the many things I should remedy at some point in my life. In the mean time those who want photos will have to do with photos on flickr. The highlight no doubt was no rules, there are a lot of rules you can break race which consisted of about 30-40 mopeds running around streets running stop signs, running on sidewalks, and nearly killing one another. I can't wait for the moped rally that's going to take place in GR, though it won't nearly be as big as the Kalamazoo one., but should still be sweet. |
